How has Wenceslas Square evolved since the 14th century?
What were its past functions and what is its function today? The square is home to valuable historical buildings, unique shopping arcades, hidden inner courtyards and amazing old department stores. Many of the square’s buildings played a social and cultural role and were designed by renowned architects. Wenceslas Square is the vibrant heart of the city, but today must deal with various problems.Richard Biegel is an art historian with a focus on architecture, urbanism, and monument preservation. He is the executive officer of the Club for Old Prague and a teacher at Charles University’s Institute of Art History.
