Screening of Bjørn Melhus’s films in the presence of the artist

  • Tuesday Oct 8 / 19:30, Desfours Palace
Price: 50 CZK (within an entrance fee for an exhibition)

The accompanying program of the exhibition entitled Nevšechno (Not Everything) will include screenings of films by Bjørn Melhus, a German artist with Norwegian roots. Bjørn Melhus was born in the German town of Kirchheim unter Teck in Baden-Würteemberg in 1966. After studying photography in Stuttgart, he completed his education by studying film and video at the HBK in Braunschweig. His experimental films and video installations have been presented in a number of international exhibition institutions and at festivals, for example in the Whitney Museum in New York, at the Istanbul Biennial, in the Serpentine Gallery in London, the ZKM in Karlsruhe, and the Denver Art Museum. In his multi-layered and ambiguous stories, Melhus comments on the neuralgic points of the contemporary society such as the media, economics, religion, ideology, xenophobia and prejudice, as well as existential and philosophical ideas. His characteristic method consists of the deconstruction of existing cinematographic works – by appropriating and remixing fragments of the soundtrack of a large number of different films, he creates a new specific narrative.
