The Evening of the Department of Photography FAMU
Very well
- Friday Oct 12 / 19:00–21:00 , Desfours Palace
Velmi dobře (Very well) will be organized by the BA students. Although we are a regular university, we are fully aware of the limits and risks of the too one-sided educational process. It is ultimately always the new generation that has to shape contemporary art and photography. After all, the teaching staff and audience can only benefit from contact with energetic and wild strategies and techniques of presentation and self-presentation. The skills of (not only) the teaching staff are getting obsolete, so they have to keep up and learn new things from their students. We hope that both you and we will enjoy a nice evening full of surprises, fun, and enlightenment!
The Department of Photography at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague was founded in 1975, and it is one of the oldest departments of its kind in Europe. It offers a three-year bachelor’s degree program and a two-year master’s program; both in Czech and English. The classes are taught primarily in seven core studios led by prominent photographers and contemporary artists – the Studio of Documentary Photography led by Markéta Kinterová, the Studio of Experimental and Studio Photography led by Rudo Prekop, the Studio of Classic Photographs led by Martin Stecker, the Studio of New Media led by Hynek Alt, and the Studio of Intermedia led Štěpánka Šimlová. In the studios, students have opportunities to learn about the full range of production and post-production techniques in photography, discover and understand their possibilities and limits, and find and invent their own creative techniques for their own intentions and preferences.
