A performative walk from the Bulovka homestead to the Cibulka homestead.
Tantehorse, a multi-genre theatre project supporting children’s palliative care, seeks an artistic take on the theme of hope for a good life after losing a child. During a two-hour performative walk between five different stops in Prague 5 – a performative lecture, participatory reading, an audiowalk, a dance installation, and singing – the audience will experience care for life, dying, and death from different perspectives – from the position of a witness, a parent, and finally the child itself. The result is shaped by the viewer based on their own experiences, feelings, and emotions.
The only way out is through.
The project’s actual creation was preceded by an intensive research phase during which the artists met with doctors, bereaved parents, and people working in bereavement care in non-profit organizations over a period of three months. Awareness-raising trips throughout the Czech Republic are planned for the next few years.
Tantehorse is a renowned Czech theatre company that acts as a platform for original works, producing high-quality, socially resonating productions. It is also a producing platform, creating space for new choreographers and authors in the field of dance and movement art.
Its front line includes movement productions that, since the beginnings of Tantehorse, have regularly achieved international renown (Light in the Darkness, S/he is Nancy Joe, Faith, etc.), multi-genre and innovative productions (Osudety – on the border of performance, installations, and escape games), performative lectures (Fears), performative productions (30-hour Momentum), and in particular the entire documentary series of autobiographical monodramas Invisible I-III, about invisible women- artists with extraordinary life stories (Hannah, Barbora, and Iris).
The second line includes productions that are created to support the mentoring of young artists, whether through tantelab, a long-term laboratory bridging the end of studies and a professional artistic career, in which performers, in a safe environment, gain both theoretical and practical stage experience in varied activities, as well as the Emergency Dances series, which gives young choreographers the opportunity to create their first original works. Emergency Dances has already had four rounds of performance, in which more than twelve original works were created (among them, Jáma Lvová and Sádlo Ridina Ahmed).
Tantehorse aims to bring new and original influences to the Czech dance and theatre scene, investing in detailed research processes, cross-overs, and immersive projects. It is led by Miřenka Čechová, a recognized author, director, choreographer and performer, who’s highly award-winning and socially critical thinking has provoked and altered the Czech theatre scene together with Tantehorse since 2010.
The ensemble’s other leaders include dramaturg and theatrical lecturer Kristyna Boháčová, choreographer and performer Markéta Vacovská, and philosopher Alice Koubová.
