The aim of the festival school is to offer participants a series of lectures and workshops by renowned experts from various areas of artistic production (fundraising, law, self-presentation, marketing, personal development, coaching, project feedback by participants, etc.). The festival school represents a unique opportunity to work within a group of 26 selected participants through workshops, lectures, discussion, and sharing. The school includes a group visit to the festival’s evening programmes, and also offers a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of an international festival in an unconventional place (including meetings with the people behind Czech premieres and the festival organizers).

10. – 13. 10. 2018

10. 10. Wednesday

10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Denisa Václavová:
On the inner and outer public space

Let’s discuss the issues of the public space at the 4 +4 Days in Motion festival: the abandoned Art Nouveau Roxy cinema, Stalin’s monument, or the small house at Petrské Square. Empty Prague palaces, factories, and a team that has been together for 23 years – how a festival is born? And why should it change the public space in the city? On the search for empty places, curating, production, and the uncertainty principle. Come to this year’s festival, and meet the people who want to be part of the festival school.

2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Veronika Bednářová and Pavlína Fechterová:
Do you want to know why journalists don’t write about you?

Do you think your communication with journalists is perfect? Veronika Bednářová, a cultural journalist and foreign journalist, and Pavlína Fechterová, a PR specialist and owner of the 2media.cz agency, will show you that this might not be true. They will tell you why most of your press releases end up in the recycle bin. They will give you useful tips on how to convince journalists that they want to write just about what you are doing.

11. 10. Thursday

9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Sodja Zupanc Lotker:
Shared dramaturgy, or We are the creators of the space

This workshop deals with making the creative process available to outsiders. The participants will learn the basic terms (the concept, context, composition, material, theatre performance, etc.) and the strategies (reading the material, the material potential, tasks etc.) of shared dramaturgy. This kind of dramaturgy is usually created by a whole creative team, often with the participation of the audience. It’s not based on traditional plays, but on various materials found during the research. We’ll try various “ingredients”, such as photographs, stories, materials, films, links, quotes, complete works, movements, spaces, ideas, dreams, concepts, and forgotten desires to create theatrical situations and explore multiple theatre spaces.

2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Magdalena Špačková:
Let’s talk about fundraising

The aim of the seminar is to answer basic questions about fundraising. What is fundraising and what can it bring to you? How to incorporate the fundraising process into your organization? What are the methods and which of them are appropriate for your organization? What is the role of fundraisers and what do they need from their organizations? We will deal with the topic from a theoretical point of view, take a look at real campaigns, try to articulate a fundraising argument, and maybe we’ll play a game.

12. 10. Friday

9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. David Kašpar:
Culture is where people live!

From apathy to an active partnership, or the role of culture and the citizen in the ecosystem of the living city. The iconic symbol of culture – the two theatre masks (one frowning, the other one laughing) – is the reason why most people think that culture means the theatre. I don’t think so. You don’t go to culture, you live culture. In a place, in time, under certain circumstances. Let’s talk about the living culture that is important for identity development and essential for any high-quality city.

2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Martin Hudeček and Václav Kuneš:
Business on the move – PRO-[ci(T]nout)

Have you ever thought of a company, institution or organization as a living organism? If so, you know how useful it is. If not, then start doing so. We’ve prepared an interactive workshop inspired by conflicts between the world of thought and the world of movement. The body and the mind. Business and dance. We’ll learn from our body how to be a better entrepreneur, leader, and person. Václav Kuneš and Martin Hudeček will be our guides. Their strength is in connecting two seemingly disparate worlds. One of them works mostly with the body, the other one with the mind. One of them works with strategies, the other one with emotions. Find out how zou can learn leadership from your body and movements. Your organization is a living organism where energy and blood flow in your body and need bones and muscles. Can you think of your body as a company? Can you think of your company as a body? The intuition you use and follow every day is the same as when you breathe or walk. But sometimes, every step hurts. We waste our energy where it’s not important at all. You just need to rediscover and connect every muscle of your body and start feeling the energy of your company as clearly and naturally as your heartbeat. You’ll literally feel the principles of a thriving firm in every muscle!

13. 10. Saturday

9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Jan Školník:
Emancipation of a provincial town in the world today

On how you can create inspiring interdisciplinary environmental and art training programmes in a provincial town. On the vision and work of the educational and cultural centre of the Broumov Monastery that aims to become a European cultural institution encouraging creativity, self-confidence, and tolerance. The narrative of a journey that still continues, but has already brought some results: the Broumov Monastery has become a living part of the town and region, and a hospitable place where visitors feel comfortable.

2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Jiří Sulženko:
Memories of the management culture

What I’ve learned in Pilsen, the European capital of culture, what it says about culture in the regions, and how it can relate to Prague theatres. Numbers, charts, and organigrams; themes, values, and a programme.
