The 4 + 4 Days in Motion festival presents an autumn program of foreign and Czech theater and dance productions | Čtyři dny

The world is changing faster than ever. Rather than responding with grand manifestos, contemporary artists are turning to personal stories, returns to history – both distant and recent – or humor and irony to open up fresh perspectives on contemporary art and today’s world. This is precisely the thread connecting this year’s international lineup at the 4 + 4 Days in Motion festival. Eight international performances will highlight creators whose work over recent seasons has made waves at major European and global festivals.

Among the featured guests in this year’s international program is Marah Haj Hussein, a Palestinian performer living and working in Belgium. Her award-winning performance Language: No broblem weaves together dance, theatre, and personal experience into a sensitive exploration of language, identity, migration, and the search for home. Acclaimed Belgian company Ontroerend Goed – a leading force in participatory and immersive theatre – brings Thanks for Being Here. Tokyo-born, London-based visual performer Chisato Minamimura will also travel to Prague. Drawing from her own experience as a Deaf artist and her work with sign language, her piece Scored in Silence reflects on the fates of Deaf survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Swiss artist Sarah Hugentobler presents the multimedia performance FUGE IN HD, playing along the uncertain boundary between the living body, the image, and digitally mediated reality. Belgian choreographer Lisa Vereertbrugghen brings Again Forever, a dance piece where slow movement becomes a vessel for intimacy, closeness, and subtle resistance against a world obsessed with speed. Meanwhile, Franco-Austrian collective Superamas delivers their new lecture-performance Denmark: An Ethnographic Performance on Happiness, dissecting European notions of happiness with ironic detachment. The lineup also features Frames and fragments, a local improvisational project by the ensemble Boca Loca Lab. Crucial to November’s program is the discussion and performance series Dialogue (Im)possible, which draws on authentic testimony from artists and curators from Russia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan to tackle war, exile, censorship, and the shifting post-Soviet landscape.

Serving as a prologue to this year’s edition, the festival will present German choreographer Anna Till’s site-specific project Impossible Horizons in the area around Galaxie in late September and early October- an international co-production between DanceConnected and 4 + 4 Days in Motion. Continuing this urban spatial engagement, unreal state by Argentine director Marcos Krivocapich examines how algorithms, digital systems, and invisible structures dictate our decision-making, behavior, and communication in modern cities. Over at Vzlet, we will host four repeat performances of the acclaimed production K sobě (To Each Other), directed by Anna Klimešová and Petr Erbes and co-produced in January 2026 by Čtyři dny and DanceConnected.

This year’s curation unites projects that leverage personal narratives to unpack memory, language, identity, interpersonal relationships, and societal shifts. They seek neither easy answers nor moral judgment, offering instead a space for shared experience, dialogue, and new perspectives on our unstable world.

The festival hubs will be Cultural Station Galaxie and Vzlet Cultural Centre – two former Prague cinemas turned prominent venues for contemporary live arts.
