Post Bellum: The Stories of our Neighbours

  • Saturday Oct 6 / 18:00, Desfours Palace
Price: 50 CZK (within an entrance fee for an exhibition)

The Stories of our Neighbours is a project created by the non-profit organization Post Bellum for teams of eighth- and ninth-graders. Their task is to interview witnesses living in their immediate vicinity. When the narrators and the interviewers like each other, the bond between them can last even after the completion of the project and helps break down the prejudices the two generations have against each other.

The young documentary makers present the witness’s story to the public in the most interesting way. To do this, they need a good understanding of the story and search for more information. They go to the archives and explore the found materials, browse the Internet, or visit the places related to the witness’s story. The result of their six-month work is a short radio, television or written report they can publish, together with the project photographs, on www.pribehynasichsousedu.cz. During the six years of existence of the project, more than 2,500 children have taken part in the project and they have processed the stories of almost 800 witnesses.

The project finale is the presentation ceremony, where the teams present the stories of their witnesses and talk about the rigmarole they went through when working on the project. The audience includes their classmates, teachers, parents, and the witnesses. The short performances are varied: sometimes sad, sometimes cheerful, but always touching. Even you can see the highlights of the last year’s project in Prague.
