FOUR CITIES IN MOTION

The international cultural project “Four Cities in Motion” is realized by 4 EU and Visegrad countries. The applicant Čtyři dny (CZ) and the co-organizers Stanica Zilina (SK), KÉK - Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre (HU) and Kulczyk Foundation (PL) are organizations whose aim is to promote innovative art through different cultural exchange and activities.

In the period from October 2007 till May 2008 the series of artistic interventions will come into existence in 5 central European cities (Bratislava, Budapest, Poznan, Zilina, Praha), which include artistic and educational activities (theatre, dance, and musical performances, site-specific projects – artistic piece created for specific/unique space, lectures, seminars, workshops, and exhibitions), which main theme is “contemporary trends in performing arts in the Visegrad space”. Project will use the different cultural-political experiences of our partners from Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia and is purposely situated to the international artistic centres, which were established in the places with industrial history (train station in Zilina, former brewery in Poznan, former glasswork factory in Budapest). Project will also use for the artistic presentation the non-traditional spaces in the historical and industrial environment in Bratislava and Prague.

The aim is to create the widest possible platform for processing the chosen locality and formulating the questions such as “What influences our identity? How the culture and society in the Central Europe influences us?” Simultaneously the artists have the possibility to present artistic diversity, variety, and originality in the environment, which after decades of isolation has the chance to get back to the world scenes in all genders of live art.

Praha 7
May 24 – May 27 2008

Program:

Sat. May 24
Ján Šimko and collective (Bratislava) „Stories from Petržalka“
- Director Ján Šimko and his team create documentary theatre. Their latest piece was inspired by true stories that have come out of the phenomenon of the Petržalka housing complex located in Bratislava. Built almost 30 years ago, Petržalka has generally continued to cause a negative stir as the largest housing complex in Central Europe with its almost 110 000 inhabitants. The theatre production uses stories from the people whose lives in Petržalka formed a great part of the history of the past century, as well as from those who are trying to direct the future of Petržalka themselves.

La Fabrika – 8:00 p.m.

Sun May 25
Teatr Bretoncaffe (Warsaw):
„Dancing of Dreambody“ + „Slam.in“

the Polish critics consider the Warsaw artistic quartet among the most progressive artistic groups in Poland. For Teatr Bretoncaffe the sources of inspiration are countless: literature, texts, philosophical thoughts, daily life, contemplation of dreams. Dance is for Teatr Bretoncaffe the term defining the work with a body - the body as a medium for representing the psychological plots. Dance and acting combine naturally, being the two sides of the same process. teatr bretoncaffe has systematically been developing its own technique of working with the body. In teatr bretoncaffe the word theatre is an open term. The group does not want to just develop some kind of style - the theatre is a place, where the artist consciously opens his mind for reality. This point of view is a foundation of the group’s work in every possible field: dance, music or text. Thus all these elements become the integral parts of a theatrical action and the process of creation
La Fabrika – 8:00 p.m.

Mon May 26
