Bryssinck & Peeters (Belgium)
Zanahoria
Zanahoria’ means ‘carrot’, which in this case is interpreted by the duo Bryssinck & Peeters as a motivational symbol for those who refuse to move from their spot. Together they describe for the public an extraordinary journey that they undertook themselves to find the ‘ultimate image’. That, on the one hand, should be a portrait of the performance’s authors, and, on the other hand, an exact reflection of their wildest ideas. In the style of a lecture and in the spirit of stand-up comedy the performance picks up on the previous and now cult hit by the duo Bryssinck & Peeters called 'Chuck Norris Doesn’t Sleep, He Waits…' (2007). It oscillates crazily between hope-filled expectation and deep disappointment, between optimism and desperation, between truth and fiction, and between the dullness of reality and uncorrupted imagination.
Hans Bryssinck and Diederik Peeters forged an intense artistic partnership in 2001–2004 and together created numerous performances and installations, together with Danai Anesiadou.
Hans Bryssinck studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. He created several independent works (Amor & Silent Manifesto) while also working as a set designer and dramaturg for Les Ballets C de la B and as a performer for Roy Faudree, LISA, and Alexandra Bachzetsis.
Diederik Peeters obtained his master’s degree in fine art. As a performer he has worked with numerous artists (Guy Cassiers, Frank Theys, Alain Platel, Jan Fabre, Erna Omarsdottir, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Superamas…) and as a dramaturg he has cooperated, for example, with Lies Pauwels, Poni, and Kate McIntosh. He is a founding member of SPASM, which is a trio that usually performs in museums and galleries as hidden and unexpected hanging exhibits.
