„Matadors“ - series of lectures on architecture
This series of lectures on architecture entitled “Matadors" presents important figures from the older generation of Slovak architects, whose work from mainly the 1960s through 1980s is among the most progressive. The presentation of the work of architects born around 1930 should lead to new findings in their work and shed light on the circumstances surrounding the creation of various projects.
Vladimír Dedeček
Vladimír Dedeček (1929), a major figure of Slovak architecture, he placed an emphasis on developing functionalist principles in his work. His most significant completed projects include the Agricultural University complex in Nitro (1960-1966) which is a progressive work often likened to the works of Oskar Niemeyer or Luigi Nervi. In Bratislava Dedeček designed a number of monumental public buildings, including that of the Slovak National Gallery on Račianské nábřeží, the Slovak National Archive, the school residency premises in Mlýnská dolina and the university building of the natural science and mathematic-physics faculty.
