Andrea Sonnberger & Gustavo Ciríaco: Here Whilst We Walk
Directed by and written by: Andrea Sonnenberger & Gustavo Ciríaco
Artistic performance for a group of 20 viewers bound together by an elastic band that changes shape depending on the group’s size, the urban landscape and architecture. The project examines by way of a silent group walk the possibilities of inhabiting, sharing and perceiving an urban space.
Brazilian artist Gustavo Ciríaco and his Austrian colleague Andrea Sonnenberger invite you for a stroll through an urban space. Both choreographers act like archivists and historians in a forgotten city and ask the audience to quietly follow them. Simple, everyday things thus take on a whole new meaning on the walk.
HERE WHILST WE WALK focuses on walking in silence and sensitive perception. The walk's participants are invited to rediscover their city, in silence, each for himself and together in the group. They take on the role of performers and are also the audience itself. Both artists are inspired by the work of Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica arising from the idea of the urban labyrinth as a place where we lose and rediscover ourselves and always change our tour according to the place in which we find ourselves.
Andrea Sonnenberger studied dance in Munich and in Vienna. She has been choreographing works as part of Tanztendenz München since 1996, and in 1999 received the grand prix of the Cour des Capucins festival in Luxembourg.
Gustavo Ciríaco studied contemporary dance at Escola Angel Vienna in Rio de Janeiro. In 1995 he founded with Frederico Paredes the Dupla de Danca Ikswalsinats dance group, performing with it at festivals in Brazil and abroad. He has also carried out numerous international projects as an artist in residence.
