A visual-acoustic performative installation

The visual-acoustic performative installation Glitch (Waiting for the Error) is a movement-based metaphor for the crisis of contemporary man and the world. By contrasting an allegorical mystery with everyday life, it creates a sense of conflict as well as unity between the earthly and transcendental dimensions of the universe. Dante’s Purgatory from the Divine Comedy is located between Hell and Paradise. Man’s seven stations on the circle of Purgatory correspond to the seven deadly sins: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. The existence of Purgatory is a munificent final chance to atone for one’s errors and to return to a pure form of love. On its metaphysical, absurdly grotesque path, Glitch confronts individuals with these seven stations and allows them to meet themselves and to ask themselves questions.

Founded in 1994, Debris Company is a unique ensemble focused on nonverbal theater with elements of contemporary dance, performance art, visual art, and site-specific projects. The group’s leading personality, director, and composer for most of its productions is Jozef Vlk, whose most frequent collaborators include actors Martin Ondrisek and Martin Piterek and choreographer Stanislava Vlčková. Their most distinctive past projects include The Trial (Franz Kafka), The Gospel According to Mark (Jorge Luis Borges), Ulysses (James Joyce), Ubu Roi (Alfred Jarry), and Murphy (Samuel Beckett), among others. The ensemble is currently focused on creating original projects in collaboration with leading domestic and foreign artists. Its work can be unambiguously placed within the multimedia avant-garde movement that has long been a vibrant presence on the Slovak theater scene.

Debris Company’s current repertoire (Soliloquy, Dolcissimesirene, Hexen, Mono, Epic, Clear, WOW!, and Abduction of Europe) has been performed in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Belarus, Singapore, India, Brazil, and other countries.
