A discussion with gallerists, artists, collectors, and representatives of art institutions on how private galleries function under the current conditions of institutionalized gallery operations.
Private galleries are many artists’ first step when entering the art market, not only in purely economic terms but also in the sense of exhibiting and human resources. Although the Czech Republic’s gallery scene is small, its activities and functioning have become significantly professionalized over the past two decades.
Private galleries are a cultural, social, and economic environment characterized by various interrelationships among the representatives of exhibition venues, independent curators, art fair representatives, the media, collectors, and the general public. Precisely this relationship structure determines artistic production and helps to shape the conditions for artists’ professional growth.
