PIRANYA COLADA (D/CUB)

Authentic Cuban sound and remade evergreens known e.g. from Buena Vista Social Club.

 

Latin-Grammy Award winner Arturo Martinez Cabrera, a significant and famous Cuban singer and percussionist, charming Italian singer Marinella Damiani and bassist Henry Altmann from Hamburg are the members of this unique music group. Their work with rhythm and singing puts dancing shoes on beautiful melancholic melodies. Simultaneous singing and playing of this trio is as vibrant concerning energy and sound as big live music bodies. After the concert you will learn that salsa is not sauce and your shoe repairman has his shop closed due to illness.

 

Arturo Martínez Cabrera (singing, percussions)
A front man of very much honored Comparsa Los Componedores de batea de La Habana and a famous rumba-band Clavé y Guaguanco /The album La Rumba soy yo won Latin Grammy in 2001/ and co-director of the English company La Timbala. He also worked with Steve Coleman, Jane Bunnett and Alex Wilson. He has done many international tours and he is also a protagonist in Bette-Wandermana movie A Cuban Legend, New York City 2002.

 

Marinella Damiani (singing, percussions)

A native Italian inclined to jazz after finishing her classical studies and she graduated in popular music in Hamburg where e.g. John Dos Santos was her teacher. She released two CDs under her own name and she recorded and played i.a. with La Timbala /GB/ and she released a CD of her project Raizamusic/ La Rumba de Echu Bi 2002/.

 

Henry Altmann (bass, percussions, singing)
He studied music studies in Hamburg and New School for Social Research in New York at Buster Williams. He composes and does arranges for film and theater (for Herman & Tietjen Swing It, TJG a State Operetta in Dresden, NDR Bigband or Zisa in Palermo etc.). He received many awards /e.g. Trude-Unruh Preis /. His own music group La KaffeehausAvantgarde belongs among the most original Hamburger music bodies.
