TEATR CINEMA /PL „Mum, I want to dance Mahler“
A play with memories and recollections; a search for an escape from a school, a hospital, stables, bureaucracy. No drama, pantomime, dance show or musical, but an original theatrical form based on absurd humour and surrealism. A perfect study of movement and its essence creates an excellent theatre art that would probably surprise even Mahler himself.
Teatr Cinema is one of the most inventive Polish theatres today and its works are often compared to those of Tadeusz Kantor and Samuel Beckett. Over the course of its fifteen year existence, company director and scenographer Zbignew Szumski has managed to give the company his expressive style that is based on a precise acting style containing a dominant creative component. Some performances are reminiscent of the atmosphere found in paintings by René Margritte; another one of Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich. The newest performance Mum, I want to dance Mahler began as a choreographic collaboration with Kristýna Lhotáková and Ladislav Soukup and means another significant shift in the work of this exceptional artistic company.
