Around the world, barracks have looked the same and functioned in the same manner for centuries.
They are guided by strict rules, their hierarchy determines how people communicate, and you have to always be prepared for the worst.
Individuality is not wanted here, and the private world has no place within this system.
Tensions between the individual and the institution are full of contrasts, unexpected situations, manipulation, conflict, and chaos.
Who controls whom in this game? Who is stronger?
And what is the worst thing we should be prepared for?OVERRULED explores the boundaries between these two world in a playful manner and full of caustic irony.
Director and actor Philipp Schenker created this site-specific project along with an international team of first-year students from DAMU’s master’s program in Directing of Devised and Object Theatre.
With: Tinka Avramova (USA/Bulgaria), Wayne Jordan (Ireland), Alyssa Dillard (USA), Arturs Čukurs (Lithuania), Vidisha Kalidasbhai Purohit (India), Ine Ubben (Belgium), and Lamija Čehajić (Bosnia-Herzegovina).
The participants broad range of experience with theater leads to a diverse and fresh mix of scenes, situations, and installations in the abandoned barracks.
