Kristin Ryg Helgebostad (NO)

Me Too

This performance by a group of young Norwegian women artists is full of fantasy and absurdity, and is interesting among other things for its exploration of gender: “They have created strong images of women, bodies, and characters in their artistic works,” famous Iranian-born Norwegian choreographer Hooman Sharifi once said about the work of Kristin Ryg Helgebostad and her collaborators.

Norwegian choreographer Kristin Ryg Helgebostad prepared her musical dance project in collaboration with musician Laura Marie Rueslåtten, who plays the carillon. Both artists have been creating art projects since 2008. Their first feature-length project, Me Too, is based on the sound of bells and the physical movement of the artists.

Imagine that you can hear movement and see sounds as colors and energy, three-dimensional singing and dancing sculptures. In Me Too, bells, the movement of the body, scenography and light melt into a beautiful, clear and tangible synthesis.

Kristin Ryg Helgebostad is a graduate of Oslo’s National Academy of the Arts (KhiO), where she received a BA in modern and contemporary dance and an MA in choreography. She is active in several art groups, among them Berstad/Helgebostad/Wigdel. Last year, her performance Jordjenta (Soil Girl) was chosen for the prestigious ICE HOT Nordic Dance Platform. It is also a priority project of the international Aerowaves network. The artistic director of the Carte Blanche contemporary dance company, choreographer Hooman Sharifi, selected her (along with choreographer Ingeleiv Berstad) for the cultural festival in Bergen (spring 2015).
