The Assembly Shop is a joint performance of viewers and creators that deals with on the relationship between work and leisure time – the question whether we spend more time in bed resting, or writing emails. The viewing experience includes both active participation and remote observation of the others and oneself.
In the Assembly Shop, the theatre is not visible, just like life is not visible in the home-office. In the Assembly Shop, the viewing experience is precarized. During the performance, viewers work and become objects of their own work. They come to the theatre where their activities become exhibited objects, whether it is work, a leisure activity, or watching the theatre.
Based on the relation of uncertainty, this relationship can be defined as follows:
The more accurately you try to define leisure time while at work, the vaguer the idea of leisure time. The more accurately you try to define work in your leisure time, the vaguer the concept of work.
Or perhaps: the more people work, the less work there is?
