Learning from documenta 14

Discussion
  • Friday Oct 13 / 18:00, Karlín Barracks
free entry

The documenta contemporary art festival takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany. Since its founding in 1955, documenta has endeavored to show the possibility of dialogue across postwar Europe. This year, the festival took place in Kassel and Athens in order to force us to reflect on this dialogue more than ever before.

What does it mean to enter the international art scene coming from Central and Eastern Europe?

What is the role of criticism (or should we focus only on specific people?) when discussing the subject of “learning from” – one of the themes of documenta 14?

What exactly are we looking at when se see contemporary and non-contemporary art exhibited side by side?

Our discussion will focus on the questions raised by documenta, and not necessarily by the actual exhibition.
