Do we really have everything under control?
How did it all start? From nothing. At first, we thought we could manage it, cover up small imbalances and missteps, the hints of dysfunction, poor synchronization. We would simply pretend that everything was under control—our movements, tones, beams of light, floor, ceiling, center of gravity, the hand offered. Somewhere, we made a mistake. Perhaps it wasn’t even our fault, but now we cannot ignore it or pretend that everything is perfect. But what actually happened? And why are we here? We replay it all from scratch.
The performance unfolds as a stream of subtly escalating images. From banal missteps and everyday pettiness to a need for mutual closeness. Two dancers meet in a theatrical and existential provisional space. The functional world crumbles under their hands. What remains at the end, when everything else fails? What survives from our grotesque attempts to lean on each other? Only dancing shadows.
SPOLK is an artistic collective of young dancers and graduates of both the Duncan Centre Conservatory in Prague and the Academy of Performing Arts. Their work primarily explores social and societal themes, with a deep interest in their examination.
David Králík graduated from the Duncan Centre Conservatory (2021) and completed a study dance residency at the University of Stavanger in Norway. He creates his own choreographies and interprets various dance and dance-theatre projects. He has been actively involved with Dance Studio Light for many years. As a performer, he has collaborated with Jiří Bartovanec, Marta Vodenková, Michal Záhora, the VerteDance group, and Věra Ondrašíková.
Adam Kmenta graduated from the Duncan Centre Conservatory and currently works as a performer with the JAD Dance Company and Left J-AWA. He teaches dance at Dance Academy Prague. Among his achievements is winning the Dance Floor Attack competition in 2020.
