The fascinating site of this year’s Places of Act, which we spent several years trying to gain access to, was built in 1974 by architect Stanislav Hubička as the headquarters of the International Union of Students, and has a gloomy history, both recent and less recent. Under the past regime, the building was an incubator for exemplary socialist youth; during the early days of capitalism, the Casino helped the Prague underworld funnel money out of various companies. Prague, 16^th October – the 17^th international festival of contemporary art 4+4 Days in Motion, which takes place from 26^th October to 3^rd November, offers many traditional and non-traditional places (an empty building of a former casino, Pařížská street 25, the Archa Theatre, Alta Studio, Alfred ve Dvoře Theatre, NoD, La Fabrika) in nine days full of cultural adrenaline: innovative, progressive and provoking art projects – dance and theatre performances, exhibitions, events in public space, installations, screenings, discussions, street plays, videoart and special concerts.
