Every year, the 4+4 Days in Motion international festival of contemporary art brings current, provocative, and innovative theater and dance projects to Prague, often combining multiple genres or made with the use of multimedia. Also every year, the festival’s venues include unused or empty buildings in downtown Prague, and this year’s 22nd edition of the festival will be no different.

Places of Act 2016 – Municipal buildings

A site-specific project for public space in Prague

Since the beginning, our nearly 20-year journey through empty and abandoned buildings has slowly been moving from the city’s periphery to its center. We started out on the outskirts of Prague in the former sewage treatment plant in Bubeneč, and have gradually moved our way through factories, warehouses, brickworks, and breweries all the way to former tenements and commercial buildings in the city center.

This year, the 4+4 Days in Motion international festival of contemporary art takes over the municipal buildings in the center of Prague

This year’s 21st edition of the 4+4 Days in Motion International Festival of Contemporary Art moves into the unused Municipal Buildings in the very center of Prague. From 30 September to 8 October, the empty buildings next to Franz Kafka Square will host an extensive exhibition by 50 artists – sculptures, paintings, installations, and photographs selected by curator Pavlína Morganová on the subject of The Independent Research of Subjectivity. The Municipal Buildings will also host the premiere performances of various theater projects, public discussions with experts, guided tours, and children’s workshops led by renowned Czech artists.
