A Future for the Municipal Buildings?
Creative centers at home and abroad

Creative centers and incubators have become an important tool for developing the creative arts throughout the world. Prague now has the opportunity to follow a similar path by supporting the creation of a creative center in the Municipal Buildings on Old Town Square. The project’s aim is to transform the group of abandoned buildings in the city’s historic Old Town into a center for education and culture. One approach to breathing life back into the city center involves bringing academia and the public sector together with research and enterprise. Besides the buildings’ strategic location in the city center and their excellent interior layout, another important role is played by the fact that Prague is already partially using these empty buildings for the public support of artistic activities. Members of the “Creative Prague” project team from the Section for Strategy and Politics at the City of Prague’s Institute for Planning and Development will present plans for the Prague Creative Center as well as successful examples of foreign centers.
