The first housing estates began to appear 150 years ago. How did ours stand out, and what can we envy our neighbors in Germany, Poland, and Slovakia for? How did the era in which they were built influence housing estates? How did the builders—the state, companies, and cooperatives—influence them? The author of the book Skryté půvaby českých sídlišť (The Hidden Charms of Czech Housing Estates) from the Central Bohemian branch of the National Heritage Institute summarizes current knowledge in terms of values and their protection.
