We approached Tomáš Hrůza for another artistic intervention for the ProLuka Gallery. Together in collaboration with graphic designer Jan Matoušek and with the technical support of sculptor Matej Al-Ali they created the author’s work in the public space of Bezručovy sady in Vršovice.

In his new realization, Tomáš Hrůza works with the topic of transformation, for which movement and transformation of existing attitudes and values is necessary. He draws attention to the inevitable need to break away from Western traditions as a necessity for a change of consciousness and a new discourse. Old original starting points and relationships are already important to rewrite, to offer a new way of processing our external world. Leaving the great thoughts and great men of the past, try to tell a story based on a different knowledge and create space for a new way of understanding the world.

The six quotations, which indicate a cross-section of the thinking of the last 500 years of Western civilization, that is since the post-Columbian times, also come from the period when the greatest loss of natural resources, economic growth and the start of the current ecological crisis.

The object on which the texts are placed symbolizes movement and circulation, which has long been meaningless, but instead becomes our brake and a conflicting mechanism that will no longer save us.

As Liebniz’s quote says exactly, ” We Live In The Best Of All Possible Worlds ” – so we have no choice but to learn to have enough and live what we have. We don’t know how long it will stay.

Tomáš Hrůza (* 1979) is an artist who graduated from the Pavel Baňka Photography Studio at FUD UJEP in Ústí nad Labem. He is also a co-founder of the platforms ArtMap, Fotograf 07 and the association Pilgrim – Wandering University of Nature. He worked as a teacher at the Department of Photography at FAMU.
